Advanced Satellite Multimedia System (ASMS) Conference: a Successful Story since 2006…

DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation, in cooperation with University of Bologna, took over the organization of the Advanced Satellite Mobile System Conference from its third edition, back in 2006. In 2010, the name was changed into Advanced Satellite Multimedia System Conference to highlight the convergence between mobile, fixed and broadcasting satellite systems and the conference merged with the Signal Processing for Space Communications, previously organized by ESA.

Since then, the conference took place every two years, even during the pandemic and it has become a reference event for the Satellite Communications community, providing a highly attractive program in terms of keynotes speeches, tutorials and special sessions, addressing the most advanced research topics in satellite communications, and offering great opportunities of networking with other colleagues and experts from both academia and industry.

The great level of interest raised by the event not only within academia but notably also within industry is clearly evident from the long list of industrial sponsors, which made possible to maintain an outstanding scientific level and attract distinguished invited speakers and experts.

To the best of the organizers’ knowledge, this is also the only event in the area of satellite communication which is technical co-sponsored by IEEE (since 2008). The strict rules concerning the acceptance rate of submitted papers is an additional guarantee of the outstanding scientific level. Recently, an industrial track with higher acceptance rate has been also added in order to favour industrial participation.

Last not least, since the 2020 edition, the coming back of satellite constellations and the ongoing 3GPP activities related to NTN (non-terrestrial networks) have attracted a constantly increasing number of participants, also outside from the satcom community.
